This hybrid event in Prague with the Czech Medical Association, supported by the Virchow Foundation for Global Health, takes place on the occasion of the 2022 Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It follows the signing of the Lyon Declaration in February 2022 during the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which prompted the creation of the One Europe for Global Health (OEGH) coalition, and the subsequent OEGH-organized World Health Summit workshop and side event in October 2022. This series of meetings aims at enabling and strengthening dialogue between governments, the European Commission, Council of the EU, and European civil society professionals.
The aim of the Prague event is to bring the young generation on board. If we talk about sustainability and continuity, we have to invite the young generation to the discussion table since they are going to overtake the main role in the future and will be the engine of future solutions. We can all benefit from these debates and mutual cooperation.
This [event] will merge two visions: that of seasoned experts with significant experience in well-being and health, and the current organization / coordination thereof [with] from diverse cultural, geopolitical and economic backgrounds; and that of young people who bring a new vision, new ideals to bring inspiration for change, integrating environmental, animal and human health.
The mission of OEGH is to improve and integrate Global Health and One Health priorities into European policies, strategies and actions by engaging European civil society and convening actors from all sectors. OEGH urges European stakeholders in Global Health to make a long-term commitment now for future generations, act locally while thinking globally, come together in equity and solidarity, limit silos with more intersectoral cooperation, and commit to good governance for a European Health Union.
