Federal Minister of Health, Karl Lauterbach, to address audience at the Virchow Prize 2024 Award Ceremony

Berlin, October 3, 2024 – It is with delight to announce that Karl Lauterbach, Federal Minister of Health, will give a welcome note on October 12 at the Virchow Prize 2024 Award Ceremony. He is joining the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, President of the German Bundestag, Bärbel Bas, and President of the Virchow Foundation, Gerald Haug.

As a leading advocate for public health, Minister Lauterbach lends his prominent voice and expertise in global health policy to this special occasion. Since December 2021, he is serving as Health Minister of Germany. Trained at Harvard, he is a professor of health economics and epidemiology. Karl Lauterbach has been pivotal in shaping Germany’s health policy, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Virchow Prize will be awarded for its third time in 2024 and is held under High Patron, President Bärbel Bas. Lucy Gilson and Johan Rockström are honoured for their holistic and systems-based approach safeguarding human and planetary health. The festive celebration takes place in the Rotes Rathaus Berlin on Saturday, October 12, at 17:00 hrs (CET). Join the livestreamed event here.
