Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa, to give laudation of Rose Leke, 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health Laureate

Berlin, October 3, 2022 – The Virchow Foundation for Global Health is honoured that Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa, will give the laudation of Rose Leke.

Matshidiso Moeti is a medical doctor and public health expert with more than 4 decades of international and national experience. She is the first women to hold the position of WHO Regional Director for Africa and has since led a Transformation Agenda. Dr Moeti is widely acknowledged to have improved WHO’s performance on emergencies, enhancing accountability and driving progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Under her leadership, tremendous progress has been made to build stronger and more resilient health systems as well as advancing gender equality and female leadership in global health.

Dr Rose Leke and Dr Matshidiso Moeti share a strong relationship, professionally and personally. The Virchow Foundation is convinced this bond will ensure a powerful laudation to honour Rose’s outstanding lifetime achievements in global health.
