Berlin, October 6, 2022 – The Virchow Foundation for Global Health is proudly announcing that Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, will open the 2022 Virchow Prize for Global Health Award Ceremony, joining speakers Governing Mayor of Berlin, Franziska Giffey, and French Ambassador for Global Health Stéphanie Seydoux.
When assuming the position of Director-General of the World Health Organization in 2017, Dr Tedros has been an essential voice within the global health landscape for over a decade, playing a crucial role in elevating health as a political issue nationally, regionally and globally. He was one of the key negotiators of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, leading to the successful financing that was needed to adopt the UN Agenda 2030. The WHO has been significantly transformed since he assumed office, enabling the Organization to focus on and deliver crucial health targets.
The 2022 Virchow Prize for Global Health will be awarded to John N Nkengasong in Berlin, held under the High Patronage of the German Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
