Berlin, October 10, 2023 It is our great privilege to announce President Bärbel Bas joins the list of distinguished speakers of the 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health Award Ceremony.

With the strong commitment from the President of the German Bundestag as high patron of the 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health, the mission of the international award and its alignment with health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the United Nations 2030 Agenda are endorsed.

“Health is crucial to lead a good life – and to create a better world. The COVID-19 pandemic has painfully demonstrated how closely interconnected and global our health is. It is important to raise awareness about the relationship between health, education, environment, and social determinants – in the spirit of Rudolf Virchow. As an established health policy advocate and current President of the German Bundestag, I am honoured to serve as High Patron of the 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health, to acknowledge innovations and lifetime achievements towards ‘Health for All’, states President Bas.

The celebration of Professor Rose Leke’s lifetime achievements comprising outstanding contributions to global health, her pioneering research towards a malaria-free world and achieving gender-equality will take place on Saturday, October 14 at 17:00 CET in the Rotes Rathaus (Berlin City Hall).
