Berlin, October 12, 2023 – We are delighted to announce Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, as a speaker of the 2023 Virchow Prize Award Ceremony. He is joining Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, Master of Ceremony and Co-Chair of Triple I, Dr Ayoade Alakija, and WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Moeti Matshidiso.
The Virchow Foundation is truly honoured that Dr Tedros has agreed to speak at the award ceremony, highlighting the significance and pivotal role of the award. His words will guarantee a truly memorable evening emphasising the importance of global cooperation, powerful partnerships and tireless dedication to achieving our common goal of ‘Health for All’.
The 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health will be awarded for the second time and is held under the high patronage of Bärbel Bas, President of the German Bundestag. Rose Gana Fomban Leke, honoured for her outstanding dedication towards global health comprising pioneering infectious disease research towards a malaria-free world and relentless dedication in advancing gender equality, the ceremony takes place on Saturday, October 14, at 17:00 hrs (CET).
