Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, to open the 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health Award Ceremony at the Rotes Rathaus Berlin

Berlin, October 5, 2023 – The Virchow Foundation for Global Health is delighted to announce that Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, will give the opening speech at the 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health Award Ceremony.

“I am truly honoured to host the 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health Award Ceremony and welcome the international community to Berlin, a city that embraces innovation, research, and global cooperation, like Rudolf Virchow, the prize’s namesake”, stated the Governing Mayor.

Kai Wegner joined the CDU (Christian Democratic Union of Germany) in 1989 and started his active and impressive political career in 1995. In April 2023, he was elected Governing Mayor of Berlin. Mr Wegner is engaged in many different organizations, dynamically shaping, and influencing the Berlin landscape. The Virchow Foundation for Global Health is honoured that the Governing Mayor kindly hosts the 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health in the Rotes Rathaus, an extraordinary landmark of the capital.

The 2023 Virchow Prize for Global Health is held under the high patronage of Bärbel Bas, President of the German Bundestag, on Saturday, October 14 at 17:00 CET in the Rotes Rathaus (Berlin City Hall). Follow the livestreamed ceremony: virchowprize.org/2023-award-ceremony/
